Plagiarism Detection Systems

In this post I'd like to compare certain plagiarism detection system that I have used in my writing career. I am not saying these are the best companies to work with, but I can objectively discuss the positive and negative aspects of every system. Working with a good plagiarism detections system is a must for every academic writer. It's not only about copying stuff from the internet, but to make sure that the content of your paper is completely original and unique, not to get the customer in trouble. Actually, I want to discuss three particular plagiarism detections systems:
  • Plagiarismdetect.com
  • Copyscape.com
Let's start with Plagiarismdetect.com. That's my first website that I have been using for about a year. Most of the times I was satisfied with their service, which was free by the way. Actually, I have never plagiarized a single paragraph in my entire life - neither when I was in college nor during my writing career. Well, long story short, when I was using the website I was involved in some editorial services with my previous company, before I started with Bookwormlab.com. I had to proofread, edit, revise and rewrite academic papers for customers who have already written their essays or term papers, but were not sure whether it was something worth to hand in. Of course, sometimes students sent plagiarized papers for me to edit. That's when I figured out that Plagiarism-detect does not actually work that good, for some papers that passed this system turned out to be plagiarized at Turnitin.com. So, I was deeply disappointed and never used it again. Oh, and now they started to charge money for their service, but I'm not sure whether anything changed over this time.
Copyscape.com is the one I am using right now and I am very satisfied with the results. It's really cheap, only $0.05 per search. Thus you get 200 searcher for $10 and they'll last you for a while. Also, you can compare two separate documents to see how they match up. That's something you won't find a lot on the internet, and even if you will, it's very hard to make something out of it. With Copyscape.com it's fast and simple. Bookwormlab.com highly recommends Copyscape plagiarism detection system to it's writers, and they are no affiliates or something - it has just proven to be effective. Well, I don't want to look like I've been advertising any of the systems, but it's merely my opinion based on my experience with the companies stated above.
Bookwormlab.com uses Copyscape.com to check every single paper they get from writers before sending it to customers. This procedure ensures double plagiarism check for every paper and guarantees totally unique and original content. That's good for the company and even better for its customers.

Plagiarism

Plagiarism has been a huge issue in everybody's life since probably sixth grade, when you had to write your first research paper. We were constantly told that taking somebody's words an submitting them as your own would be a violation of rules and policies that every educational institution tries to follow and protect. Therefore, the ethics of writing and research require that writers are credited for their compositions. If it is not done so, then it is considered plagiarism:
"n. taking the writings or literary concepts (a plot, characters, words) of another and selling and/or publishing them as one's own product. Quotes which are brief or are acknowledged as quotes do not constitute plagiarism. The actual author can bring a lawsuit for appropriation of his/her work against the plagiarist and recover the profits. Normally plagiarism is not a crime, but it can be used as the basis of a fraud charge or copyright infringement if prior creation can be proved"(dictionary.law.com)
And it doesn't really matter whether it was done intentionally or unintentionally, for it is not ethical to appropriate the ideas or words of another person without prior sufficient acknowledgment. Very often, students accused of plagiarism defend themselves stating that it came about without their intent or awareness. However, the ignorance of the rule can not be a justifiable defense, thus it is highly recommended to become thoroughly acquainted with the cases of plagiarism and ways it can avoided. Every academic writer must know how to cite the outside sources and make sure it is done according to certain academic style, like APA, MLA etc. There no such cases of plagiarism which are less serious than others. Each and every form of plagiarism is not tolerated in any case, and no distinctions can be made here. Thus, submitting a paper which is not yours won't give you any credit for it. You must be careful when using someone else's essay or research paper for better comprehension of the assignment, thus giving credit to the author.
However, it does not refer to custom writing websites, when you pay somebody to write a paper for you. Technically, you are buying the 'copyright' for this paper and writers who work for such companies are well aware of it. Before I was hired at Bookwormlab.com, I had to pass a phone interview. Their manager provided me with all the information about the company and what exactly academic writing is. I know my papers may be handed in as they go (often customers use custom paper as a sample or guide to enhance their own paper), but I agreed on it and it doesn't hurt my feelings at all. As soon as the paper is bought from me and not stoled or anything, I have a full right to let him/her utilize it, because what's mine is mine to give.

Getting to know...

Hello everybody! My name is Michael Polonsky, but I usually just go by Mikey. I live in Orlando, Florida. I moved to United States back in 1991 (when I was 10 y.o.) with my family, and have been living here since then. I have never done blogging before, so it will be my first experience of the kind.
Currently I work as a freelance academic writer for a newly developed custom writing agency Bookwormlab.com. I have been with them since fall 2009, and all in all I am satisfied with the company. Actually, academic writing is somewhat different from regular freelance writing, for it is directly connected with writing college papers and not articles or publications. Some people think it is unethical to hand in papers that you did not writer yourself and call it cheating. However, I think it is for me to judge the ethical part of this business. As soon as the customer wants to use my paper as his/her own and I don't have any problems with, then why do I have to care about anything else? People make choices and it is my choice to write college papers for students, and it's customer's choice to receive the kind of service. Back then when I was in college I had to work 2 jobs after classes every single day and it was tough for me to manage my studies with all the assignments I had to do. Practically, custom writing industry did not exist in the 90's and I did not have a chance to order a paper on-line and receive the kind of help which is available today. I am sure I would have used this service in college if I could.

Today, it is hard for people to make their living and apart from getting education they usually have to work several jobs and take care of their kids and families. That's why we help these people to work things out and ease up their struggle. So, if you thinks it's illegal, unethical, immoral, or whatever, then my blog is not for you guys, because I won't be arguing or disputing anything here. What I will be discussing here are various writing tips and strategies to give a step up to prospective academic writers and show them how to acquire extra income and get full satisfaction out of it.
